Wouter Stelwagen

The landscapes of in Wouter Stelwagen’s photographs invite us to look at the ‘urban’ world with fresh eyes. They bear witness to a stillness, buildings become characters and landscapes a blank canvas, stripped of their human context. The fascinating structures, the straitjacket of design and ultimately the small imperfections become visible in balanced compositions with a kind of orphaned beauty. The photographs show a world of people without people, they show the world we leave behind when we are not there. Wouter Stelwagen studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy of Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited and published in galleries, festivals, magazines and newspapers at home and abroad, including Unseen, Fotofestival Naarden, FOAM, Galerie B25 Los Angeles, Photoville New York, Volkskrant Magazine and Pf Magazine.
