Reinier Gerritsen
Reinier Gerritsen became known in the Netherlands through the commission given to him by the Rijksmuseum to document corporate culture in the Netherlands. The project that gave him international recognition was ‘The Europeans’. He travelled to all major cities in Europe and made group portraits of people waiting on the zebra crossing. It resulted in a portrait of a continent. ‘Wall Street Stop’, published by Hatje Cantz, consists of portraits from the world of Wall Street: a commentary on the financial crisis.‘The Last Book’ is a book about reading on the New York Subway, published by Aperture. The photographs of this project earned him the first solo exhibition in New York and an extensive publication in the New York Times. A project about the financial world ‘Bankrun’ was shown at many festivals and appeared as an artist’s book. He is now working on several projects in Amsterdam and Paris. He was recently approached by the Rijksmuseum to do a photobook of the restoration of the Night Watch with, his speciality, the public looking at it.
