Jasper Zwartjes

If I try to create something from what I know or think, I don’t get very far. Because I’ll end up doing what I already know, it’s too predictable. I prefer to go to work not knowing exactly what is going to happen, I try to give room for the unexpected and allow things to happen that I could not have imagined when I started. Good photography come into being the moment you lose control.
The right conditions must however be created beforehand. When you have set the right conditions, you let go of the control to achieve the desired goal. A complex theory perhaps, but one that has worked for Jasper Zwartjes since he graduated from the Rietveld Academy.
From the moment his first photo rose to the surface of the developing bath, Zwartjes saw the light. And out of the blue there was magic, and the camera made it happen. It’s this instant kick that attracted him to his polaroid and specifically the 8×10 inch. Which became his signature style over the years for his photography.
