Jantien de Bruin

There are a number of recurring themes in the work of Jantien de Bruin (1971). Security, memory and loss play a major role in her photographic and filmic work.
They are snapshots with often a nostalgic, melancholic impression. Atmosphere is an important aspect here. This is not to say that the images are always intimate. They are often a mixture of inti- macy and remoteness, of a personal and also universal feeling.
These themes seem romantic but, through de Bruin’s imagery, give an uneasy feeling and create an intangible field of tension
