Caroline Schröder

Caroline Schröder (1961) studied at the St. Joost Art Academy in Breda. During her studies she worked in London as an assistant for several photographers. After the Academy, she completed major assignments for the Offshore company Heerema, the Province of North Brabant, the city of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amersfoort. She exhibited in museums and various galleries. She finds her greatest inspiration in the African art of natural peoples and medieval art from Italy. The directness of the depiction, the simplicity, the use of color.
When she travels, she ‘collects’ photographic images and natural materials from nature and the street. Later in her studio she processes her treasures into diptychs, triptychs and spatial objects. ‘The materials and photographic images wait patiently in drawers and cupboards until the spirit returns to them. When they are joined together in a new covenant with life they will speak with a new voice’. With her work she explores the vulnerability and transience of life in relation to femininity. She wants to make the beauty of the unseen visible in the form of small visual stories.
