Berry van Galen graduated from the Fotoacademie Amsterdam in June 2021. After a career as a theater maker and television director, she decided to dedicate her life to photography in her own unique way. Van Galen is a true storyteller, perceiving the world through an aesthetic lens.

Her perspective is profoundly influenced by being born as half of an identical twin, which may explain why she frequently delves into the emotional connections people have with their surroundings and how these connections shape our identity and evolve over time. The artist’s exploration of our place in the world is encapsulated in multi-layered images that oscillate between holding on and letting go. Her work spans from narrative portraits to personal collages created from collected and meticulously edited images. Additionally, she has developed a passion for crafting portraits that often incorporate an additional, literal layer.
